Palm Beach

26/09/2019 by Jill Gosselin

There is a good reason Palm Beach doubles up as the setting for Summer Bay, the fictional beach in TV show Home and Away, the golden sand and sparkling blue sea make it look too good to be true. But there’s more than just sea and sand here, explore Barrenjoey Head, Sydney’s northernmost seaside point and lots more. The Official Home and Away Tour is a great way to see the key sights of “Summer Bay”, such as the Summer Bay Surf Club, Alf’s Bait Shop and the rock pool. Tours depart from Sydney and are run by an expert guide, who provides fans with interesting facts about the show. You may be lucky enough to see the soap being filmed. The tour takes the scenic route to Whale Beach, Avalon Beach and Bilgola Lookout, passing filming locations and breathtaking views along the coastline.

Discover the splendour of Palm Beach, from the glittering blue waters and golden sands to towering pines and magnificent vistas from the Lighthouse at Barrenjoey Headland, Sydney’s northernmost seaside point. If you’re planning on spending the day at Palmy, as the locals call it, bring your board because you’ll enjoy excellent surf at the northern end of the beach. The southern end offers less active beachgoers, a protected area for swimming in the ocean pool and pretty picnic spots under the pine trees. You can enjoy a wide range of water sports, ferry rides and waterside restaurants such as The Boathouse – https://www.theboathousepb.com.au/cafe  , Barrenjoey House – https://www.barrenjoeyhouse.com.au/  and Jonahs – https://www.jonahs.com.au/.

Only 90 minutes by public transport from the city centre, the narrow peninsula is surrounded by pristine waters on three sides: Pittwater to the west, the Pacific Ocean to the east, and Broken Bay to the north at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, which meanders inland to historic Windsor.
